This morning depart from Delhi by private car for Jaipur. Jaipur is known as the "pink city" with its buildings of pink and orange hues and it's a wonderful place to see the color of Rajasthan and its people. The palaces and forts of yesteryears that witnessed royal processions and splendour are now integrated into the daily life of Jaipur.
Afternoon sightseeing tour of Jaipur includes visits to City Palace in the heart of Jaipur, known for its blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. Not far away is the Central Museum with its large collection of woodwork, Another monument near the City Palace, Jantar Mantar, is the largest of the five observatories built by the ruler “Sawai Jai Singh”. The “Hawa Mahal” or the Palace of Winds was constructed for the royal ladies to watch the royal processions without them being seen.
Visit Amber Fort, the ancient capital of the State until 1728.
Visit the Temple of Kali, the Hall of Victory or Jai Mahal and
Jagmandir. You can have the unique experience of riding on
elephant back to and from the top of the hill on which the fort
is situated.
Rest of the day is free to explore the colorful town independently. Spend time souvenir-hunting in crowded shopping lanes of pink city. In the afternoon visit the Observatory, the Palace of Winds and the City Palace and Museum. The museum has an interesting textile section, which contains dresses and costumes of the former Maharajas and Maharanis of Jaipur. Return to the hotel for overnight stay.
This morning we will drive to Ranthambore Tiger Sanctuary.
The Ranthambore Tiger Sanctuary is one of the fine examples of the "Project Tiger" conservation efforts. The sanctuary boasts some of the best wildlife sightings Asia has to offer. The park has three major lakes - Rajbaugh, Milak talab and Padam talab, which serve as watering holes for the animals. The imposing Ranthambore fort adds to the grandeur of the park. Among the animals, birds and reptiles that can be spotted in Ranthambore are the tiger, the sambar, leopard, chinkara, blue bull, chital, jackal, hyena, caracal, fox, jungle cat, sloth bear, ratel, langur and wild boar. The park is also home to over 300 species of bird - like parakeets, peafowl, storks, partridges, egrets, eagles, flycatchers, owls and migratory varieties in the winter months that include the greylag goose, black eagle, ruddy shelduck, pintails.
You will be accompanied by a naturalist into the Park for evening safari on an exclusive Jeep. On arrival check in at hotel.
Following dinner there may be a slide show and an orientation talk about the park and its wildlife by the lodge staff.
Early morning a Jeep safari into the park, which is one of the finest tiger reserves in the country. Spread over an area of 392 sq. km, the park is characterized by dry deciduous forests sprawling over the Aravalli and Vindhyan ranges. If you are lucky, you might see the tiger strolling in the jungle or near any of the three lakes.
You may like to spend the afternoon visiting nearby temples and sites. Also visit the Ranthambore Fort built by the Chauhan rulers in the 10th century, regarded as one of the oldest forts of Rajasthan. The fort is characterized by its temples, tanks, massive gates and huge walls. You will have another opportunity in the afternoon for tiger spotting during your second safari of the day. Overnight is at the lodge / camp.
National park Timings Morning (0630hrs. - 0930 hrs.)
Evening (1430 hrs. - 1730 hrs.)
People interested in birds will know Bharatpur for its World Heritage bird sanctuary, the Keoladeo Ghana National Park. This area was originally flooded by the Maharaja, so his hunting trips were successful, but now the sanctuary is a haven and home to over 400 kinds of birds and many other migratory species. The style of wildlife viewing here is a highlight in itself, as you travel by bicycle or a cycle-rickshaw with a local guide who is an expert on the flora and fauna of the park.
You stay overnight at Bharatpur Forest Lodge, inside the park.
Driving
from Bharatpur to Agra you break the journey at Fatehpur Sikri
an amazing ghost town that was once the capital of the Mughal
Empire. This was the capital city of Akbar but was abandoned
later due to scarcity of water. This complex in red sandstone is
considered to be more beautiful than Taj Mahal by many visitors.
Then continue your drive of approximately 45 min. to Agra. In
Agra unwind in the hotel by the poolside after the drive.
Today proceed for a half day guided city tour of Taj Mahal. This
white marble mausoleum, was built in the middle of the 17th
century by the Moghul emperor Shah Jehan for his wife, Mumtaz
Mahal. It is said that different types of precious and semi
precious stones were used in the intricate inlay work done on
the interiors. This magnificent monument is set around a
Charbagh or 'four garden', which is spilt by watercourses - a
reflection of Persian style.
